Is it possible to extend the cables between the MFAM sensors and module? | 9 Relevance | 2 years ago | Gretchen Schmauder | Hardware
The cables between the sensors and the MFAM module are flexible circuit boards, and the length is limited to 20 inches. It is possible to remove the MFAM module from the Development kit box and then reconnect it using a ribbon cable. That would allow you to extend the MFAM module and sensors away from the Dev Kit box. Our engineers have tested it to 4 meters. Below are some details about the ribbon cable. The connector on the MFAM unit is Samtec FSH-110-04-F-DH. Its mating connector is Samtec SFMH-110-02-L-D-WT. The easiest option for an extender c ...
What are the functional limits of a trigger extension cable? | 8 Relevance | 2 years ago | Gretchen Schmauder | Hardware
How long can a trigger extension cable be and still function to trigger a seismograph? In the past our engineers have tested trigger lines up to 1 Km without any noted latency issues. That was done with the standard RJ-58 Coax cable. It is possible that it may work at distances longer, but we would recommend testing it above ground before field deployment. We do have a Trigger Noise Filter, connected in-line with (long) trigger cables to suppress false triggering. Contact us for more information.
Intermittent Issue Diagnosis | 6 Relevance | 2 years ago | Rui Zhang | Hardware
... The two most common places where intermittent issues occur are at the two ends of the Rx cable: the joint between the Rx cable and the Cart and the joint between the Rx cable and the EDA box (orange box). Now we need to identify which joint has the intermittent issue. Set up the MM2x2 in DAM mode. Collect DAM data while keeping the Cart stationary but tapping one joint. Collect another DAM data while tapping the other joint. Analyze the DAM data by plotting the “Monostatic_5” for all 12 Rx channels in Geosoft. The channels having intermittent issues wi ...
Channel remapping in SGOS | 6 Relevance | 2 years ago | Gretchen Schmauder | Software
Channel Remapping Channel remapping allows you to change: the order of channels on each analog spread cable that connects to the Geode reorder the Geode boxes. You would use this option if your cables were wired opposite to the default order normally used in Geometrics wiring, if you wished to turn your line around to have the low channels at the opposite end, or if your cables had a wiring error. Channel remapping is also often necessary when using more that a single network cable. Default cable wiring of Geometrics seismographs Default order is defi ...
Basic Troubleshooting Techniques for OhmMapper | 6 Relevance | 2 years ago | Gretchen Schmauder | Application
... Is that what the transmitter is doing? If not, there are three possible causes of the problem and this will require require swapping parts: Defective dipole cable or shorting plugs are two potential problems. The best test is to plug the shorting plugs directly into both ends of the Transmitter and turn on. If this works, then add one dipole cable and turn on again. Then add the second cable and power up. If failure occurs with just the shorting plugs then the most likely problem is a battery with a shorted internal cell. This will look like it is fully ...
RE: Correct grounding technique for Geode seismographs | 4 Relevance | 1 year ago | Rui Zhang | Hardware
... to the grounding post is the best you can do. Sometimes adding a little water to the soil around the stake can help. We have seen a majority of this type of noise occur in highly resistive environments (dry sands or hard rock), and grounding can help. If you are able to orient the lines perpendicular to the transmission lines that can also help. In general, with high voltage lines, the emanating field (50 or 60Hz) is likely coupling into the spread cable. Each geophone pair in the spread cable is a big antenna, but the pairs are twisted so any signal i ...
G-882 Magnetometer will no longer communicate with a computer | 4 Relevance | 2 years ago | Gretchen Schmauder | Hardware
... There is nothing that can be done in the field at this point. Arrange to send it in by requesting an RMA number from our RMA page. If the magnetometer is working then "dies" it would be useful to have the data from the "diagnostic survey". Review this document: Diagnostic Surveys for CM221 Counter Equipped Magnetometers r-2. Connect on board power supply (if different than the supply already checked) Verify operation. If it fails record Diagnostic Survey. If working proceed. Connect Deck cable (if applicable). Verify operation. If it fails record Diagno ...
Quick Download Process for the G-857 Magnetometer | 3 Relevance | 4 months ago | Wei Jiang | Hardware
Verify BAUD Rate selected on dip switches 6,7,8 Note: according to a customer this is how the switches are set as they are attempting a file transfer at 115200 BAUD. Connect the G-857 to the computer using the download cable and a properly installed USB/RS-232 adaptor. (Must have FTDI): Open the MagMap Software. Select Import>G-857/ASCII 1. Enter known Serial Port (My computer is COM4) 2. BAUD 115200 (Switches 6, 7 and 8 off) 3. Set a good location for the file to written to. 4. Leave Download only, open later unchecked. 5. Best Practices for Downloading data from ATOMs | 3 Relevance | 1 year ago | Wei Jiang | Application
... Point (AP), which will increase the signal strength available to both the Atom’s and the AP. The RF environment during data download can impact whether the ATOMs can connect and on how fast they download data. Other RF devices in the vicinity (i.e., Bluetooth, wireless cameras, other APs, etc.), can cause slower download time. If there is a microwave oven operating nearby, this can disrupt communication between the ATOMs and the AP. If you are having trouble getting the ATOMs to connect and download, try setting up the AP and laptop and then turning on ...

How can I connect a GPS to my G-858 Magnetometer? | 3 Relevance | 2 years ago | Gretchen Schmauder | Hardware
It is a fairly simple task to connect a GPS to a G-858 magnetometer. You can use the External I/O cable assembly and a null modem to connect the G-858 to most GPS receivers. Null modems are available from Geometrics or from local Radio Shack or computer stores. The Null modem pin configuration for GPS receivers that have a data cable compatible with 9 pin IBM PC COM ports has male pins on both sides. The GPS should be set to output NMEA data that contains the $GPGGA sentence. Be sure to set the RS232 protocol to 9600 Baud, 8 Databits, 1 Stop Bit and No Par ...
RE: Finding lost MagArrow II with a new MagArrow II | 2 Relevance | 1 day ago | Rui Zhang | Hardware
I agree with Peter that it will be very challenging to locate the MagArrow II or the drone using the magnetic method. You will need to get to <0.2m from the MagArrow II to detect any significant magnetic signature. As for the drone, the detection range is probably < 1 m because the 3 m suspension cable is far enough to make the drone "invisible" to the MagArrow. As Peter pointed out, vision method probably works better than the magnetic method in this case. Wish you the best luck!
How do get live data streaming from UART5 or ethernet port without using MagView. | 2 Relevance | 1 year ago | Kuldeep Dhiman | Application
... to the USB port of my laptop using a suitable cable and tried to monitor data using Putty with different baud rates but found nothing. Is data streaming available on UART5 by default? or do I need to enable it? I can see data on the ethernet port using MagView. Ethernet port uses TCP protocol. Is there any way to enable UDP on the ethernet port? In case I write code to read the ethernet port using TCP then please suggest a suitable reference to start. Thanks a lot |
