Customer Service
Support Engineer
Description

Geometrics is a world leader in the design and manufacture of geophysical instruments which help to see beneath the surface of the earth. Our products include magnetometers, exploration seismographs, and electrical resistivity measuring equipment. This position will be located in our office in San Jose, California.

Geometrics is seeking an individual interested in working as a Support Engineer in our Customer Service Department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to use his/her geophysical background and business skills to provide solutions to customers involved in geophysical surveys.

Requirements

This is a key position for Geometrics. We need talented and ambitious people who have practical field survey expertise, able to understand our customers’ requirements and enjoy the challenge of problem solving. Good communication and interpersonal skills are a must; diplomacy in handling customer problems and finding solutions quickly is a very important part of the job.

Main requirements include:
  • BS in Geophysics or related discipline
  • At least 2 years of field experience
  • Broad understanding of a variety of geophysical methods, instrumentation and application
  • Strong business and technical background with an ability to communicate information. We are a global company; ability to communicate effectively with people whose first language is not English is a must Strong communication skills; ability to clearly articulate information to colleagues and customers in writing, in person, or on the phone
  • Ability to quickly learn Geometrics software/hardware products and accessories
  • Geophysical applications – Understands how to use Geometrics equipment to solve geophysical problems; provide suggestions to customers regarding instrument selection; know industry standards and requirements and use this information to make informed suggestions on maximizing customer’s chance of success
  • Excellent writing skills – Email is our dominant form of communication, and candidates must be able to quickly compose responses that clearly explain complex subjects.
  • Good presentation skills
  • Proficient computer skills-Microsoft Office is a must, including knowledge of Excel and report writing functions
  • Experience with seismic data processing packages would be beneficial
  • Ability to learn Geometrics software packages
  • Advanced understanding of cloud based sales and support software
  • Physical requirements include:
  • Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week if necessary
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods of time in an office and in an outdoor environment for field work and testing equipment, including inclement weather and uneven surfaces
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate keyboards and geophysical equipment
  • Must be able to lift/move objects up to thirty-five pounds, possibly more

  • Qualifications
    Responsibilities include:
    • Working with customers to gain an understanding of their problem and proposing and quoting hardware/software solutions
    • Fielding support calls and emails, tracking interactions and solutions
    • Training customers on the use of geophysical equipment
    • Communicating the needs of customers to engineering and support groups within Geometrics
    • Developing written training materials and user’s manuals for customers
    • Installing and commissioning of systems worldwide
    • Domestic and international travel

Operations
Production Control Planner
Description

Geometrics, Inc., a world-leading developer and manufacturer of instruments and tools for measuring and analyzing geophysical structures and other complex systems, seeks a Production Control Planner for its San Jose, CA facility.

Position Overview:

Responsible for interpreting forecasts for dependent and independent demand on manufactured assemblies and sub-assemblies, generates and maintains weekly production schedules to meet shipping requirement and business plans. Plans and generates manufacturing work orders and parts kits based upon Customer Service, Manufacturing Forecast, and Customer Orders. Schedule specific production work for manufacturing or assembly jobs according to the master schedule. Modify production schedule as required due to process changes, capacity or material issues. Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to production schedule. Duties include reviewing and distributing production work schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion status, compiling progress reports detailing schedule adherence status, inventory levels, and production constraints. This position will work closely with the Materials Department and the Production Team.

Requirements

Major Responsibilities

Essential duties include the following

  • Work closely with production and materials managers to establish and track labor capacity and material availability for use in production scheduling.
  • Establish and maintain weekly production schedule to achieve sales, finished goods, engineering and Customer Service product requirements.
  • Establish and maintain manufacturing kit pick list to meet production schedule requirements.
  • Ensure parts shortages are issued to kits in production in timely and controlled manner.
  • Establish and maintain manageable number of kits on the production floor to meet sales, finished goods, engineering and Customer Service requirements.
  • Generate appropriate reports and schedules including schedule adherence, material variance and others as required.
  • Work closely with the Stockroom personnel regarding kits and parts, assist when needed.
  • Compile and prepare documentation related to production and shortages for sales/repair orders.
  • Confer with buyers and production supervisor to coordinate production and shipping activities, and to resolve issues which may lead to schedule non-conformance.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 -5 years’ experience in electronics/electro-mechanical manufacturing materials positions with minimum two years direct responsibility for production work order kitting and inventory control.
  • Proficient with ERP/MRP systems and applications, particularly as related to shop floor control and manufacturing work order management, planning, capacity management, BOM structures, ECO & MRB procedures.
  • Ability to work closely with product and manufacturing engineering to effectively transition products and enhancements from engineering to manufacturing status.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline oriented environment.

Your Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain performance software applications upon instrumentation hardware to provide an intuitive user experience to our customers
  • Develop production code, primarily in Java, C, C++ and/or C#
  • Participate in system design and architectures for various data acquisition instruments to develop customer-centric solutions
  • Prioritize and deliver robust, quality software applications in timely manner
  • Test, debug and fix software with hardware in loop
  • Provide feedback to hardware designers to improve functionality, usability and performance of our instruments

Requirements
Necessary:
  • BS in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineer with 5 years’ industry-relevant experience or MS in CS/CE/EE with 2 years’ industry-relevant experience
  • Native familiarity with Java, C, C++, and/or C#
  • Experience in developing hardware-interfacing software solutions
  • Well versed in object oriented thought processes, standard algorithms and structures, and their typical use cases
  • Experience with formal software development processes in requirements analysis, SCM, DevOps, software release, and maintenance
  • Self-driven problem solver with initiative to recognize and accept challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross functional teams
Desired:
  • Experience in developing full-stack solutions in the IoT paradigm from hardware device driver level to data management in the cloud and graphical user interfaces
