if you have many .magdata files to convert, it is more convenient to use the command-based MagArrowConverter, instead of the Windows-based Survey Manager. The MagArrowConverter installation file can be downloaded from MagArrow product link under firmware/software download:
To use the MagArrowConverter:
Run “MagArrowConverterInstaller.exe” to install the converter. it is recommended NOT to install the converter on the default C:\Program Files\ directory since some computer may not allow users to create files in this directory. Open Windows Command (“cmd”) ...
The Earth's magnetic field changes throughout the day due to solar wind and other factors. A base station's data is used to correct for these variations (diurnal variations), which can significantly impact the results of a survey. in general, diurnal variations do not change rapidly, and it is not required to record the Earth's magnetic field at high sample rates. However, during geomagnetic storms, diurnal variations can be so rapid that 10Hz or a higher sample rate is necessary to track the field change. Kp index is commonly used to measure the strength of ...
Every second, the NMEA strings, delimited by single quotation marks, are included as separate columns. The strings also contains commas. Therefore, there will be more columns if you use comma as the only delimiter.
The correct import setting should be comma-separated, with single quotation marks as string delimiters. All of those "extra" columns will be revealed as the original RMC and GGA NMEA strings.
@antonydublin Thanks for sharing the plot! if the noise is broad-band as shown in the plot, narrow frequency filtering won't help much.
Thank you for detailed answer. i understood that common practice is separate grounding of each module. Also we will definitely try to shield each geophone with a separate ground, but this will require a large amount of preliminary work.
Regarding 50 Hz filtering.
We conducted a small experiment in the field to determine the frequencies of background electrical noise captured by geophones. Having set the minimum possible sampling period for Geod, i recorded 9 consecutive intervals (128 seconds each) of passive observations. This resulted in a total of 19.2 ...
Hi Anton,
We are not aware of any special grounding schemes for a large number of modules. in dealing with EMI interference, our experience is that you need to individually ground each Geode - how you do it depends on the conditions you are in, but generally a Metal stake with a wire to the grounding post is the best you can do. Sometimes adding a little water to the soil around the stake can help.
We have seen a majority of this type of noise occur in highly resistive environments (dry sands or hard rock), and grounding can help. if you are able to or ...
Hello, guys.I need to ask some questions about grounding technique for Geode seismographs.
Current territory that we need to investigate has strong electromagnetic pollution from nearbuy high voltage power line. When using 48 to 96 geophones many channels experiencing strong EMI interference in wide spectrum. So i want to ask the forum society for some advices on the grounding technique of Geode modules. Because in documentation there is only a mention of "grounding plug" on the side of boxes. But there is no advices on how to properly ground 4 or more modu ...
