Geometrics, a world-leading manufacturer of seismic, magnetic, and geoelectric equipment, recently worked in conjunction with Geomatrix Earth Science LTD, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) to outfit the newly-built RRS Sir David Attenborough with our GeoEel™ Solid Digital Streamer, a state-of-the-art marine seismograph.

The RRS Sir David Attenborough is a Polar-class 4 research vessel intended for marine and oceanographic research in the polar regions of the world. The BAS and NERC intends to fully equip the Attenborough with the most advanced research equipment available, from remote-controlled submersibles to advanced weather monitoring equipment. The GeoEel Streamer is one of the most advanced marine seismographs available today, and will be a great addition to the other research capabilities of the Attenborough.

With the GeoEel, the British Antarctic Survey will perform seismic reflection profiling, which enables imaging of geological structure and strata beneath the seafloor, on multi-disciplinary cruises. Such data provide immense added value to many geoscientific and paleoenvironmental studies and can also be used in informing the interpretation of other data sets such as swath bathymetry, sub-bottom profiles and sediment cores.

Geometrics is honored to be working on this project. To learn more about the GeoEel Solid™ Digital Streamer visit the GeoEel product page on our website.
