Applications Geophysicist

Geometrics is seeking individuals interested in working as an Applications Geophysicist in our expanding Sales and Applications Department. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone to use his or her background in geophysics to provide assistance and solutions to customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with customers to gain an understanding of their problem and proposing and quoting a hardware/software solution
  • Fielding support calls
  • Installation and commissioning of systems worldwide
  • Training customers on the use of equipment
  • Testing equipment
  • Writing user’s manuals and specification sheets
  • Visiting potential customers and giving presentations
  • New product development
  • Representing Geometrics at geophysical conferences (SEG, EAGE, SAGEEP, etc.)
  • Domestic and international travel

    This is a key position for Geometrics. Our business is growing and we need excellent and ambitious people who have practical field experience, understand our customers’ requirements, enjoy a challenge, and aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Good communications and interpersonal relations skills are a must.

Main requirements include:

  • BS in Geophysics (or like discipline)
  • Working understanding of seismic, magnetic, or EM/resistivity surveys
  • Good business and technical communications skills – you will be working with a diverse array of people, inside and outside of Geometrics. We are a global company; you will be required to communicate effectively with people from around the world
  • Good interpersonal relations – you must be a “people person” and be comfortable in multi-cultural settings
  • Excellent writing skills – Email is our dominant form of communication and candidates must be able to write clearly and concisely
  • Good presentation skills
  • Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, is a must

Analog Instrumentation Engineer

Overview
Geometrics, Inc., a world-leading developer and manufacturer of geophysical instruments, is currently seeking an Instrumentation Engineer for its San Jose, CA facility. This position will involve developing a new generation of high performance geophysical instruments. The project utilizes a wide range of disciplines, including basic physics, geo physics, analog circuit design, digital design, embedded software, and high level GUI software.

Duties will range from design of analog circuitry for quantum magnetometers and other geophysical instruments, digital design for the data acquisition systems, training manufacturing technicians in testing and troubleshooting such systems, to the support of customers in using such systems.

*Requirements: *
• A strong record of innovation, intellectual independence, scientific leadership, and engineering project work
• Practical hands-on experience as an Analog Analyst
• At least five years of experience designing analog circuitry
• A strong background in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation
• Past experience designing data acquisition systems
• Past experience in a research and manufacturing environment utilizing skills as an analytical analog problem solver
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English
• A track record of completing projects on time
• A Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Geophysics, or Mathematics or equivalent years of experience

Duties
The Instrumentation Engineer will work in a team environment developing analog and digital electronic circuitry for high resolution magnetometers. The main objective is to design rugged, reliable, field instrumentation for high performance magnetometry. This requires selecting the optimal approach towards the design, including which technologies to use for signal extraction and which components and technologies to use for performing the required tasks of the electronics. The key is balancing competing objectives such as performance, cost, ease of manufacture, and time to market. This requires a strong knowledge of the available techniques, components, and technologies, a good understanding of the objectives Geometrics is trying to accomplish, and good communications skills to be able to effectively work with other engineers and marketing staff to reach a consensus on the correct approach in a timely manner.
