Refraction and Surface Wave Surveying
November 14-16th, 2005

Please join us for our annual seismic refraction short course featuring Geometrics seismographs and SeisImager data analysis software from OYO.  Refraction theory and data acquisition and processing will be discussed over the first two days, with the addition of a third day devoted to surface waves.

Who should attend:  Anyone interested in using, specifying, or auditing seismic refraction and surface wave (active and passive source) surveying for characterization of the near surface. 

What the course entails: Three-day theory and field course using Geometrics seismographs and SeisImager/2D and SeisImager/SW data analysis software.

When:  November 14 - 16, 2005, the week after the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Annual Meeting in Houston, Texas.  Registration should be done via email by October 31, 2005.

Where:  Geometrics, Inc., 2190 Fortune Drive, San Jose, California 95131 USA. 

Cost:  $600 USD. Includes course materials and daily continental breakfast and lunch. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and checks are accepted.  Discounts for students available, please contact us for prices. Note that the cost of the course may be applied to purchase or rent of a Geometrics seismograph (offer good until November 2006).

     You will need a laptop computer to process data for this exercise. Software and data will be sent to you in advance.

     Frequently Asked Questions:

       Where should I stay? Click here for a list of hotels in the area that you can choose from. Prices are probably cheaper than listed here.

       Where can I fly into? Three major airports are close by: San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco. San Jose is the closest, about 20 minutes from our facility.

     Should I rent a car? Yes. It is is possible to get around on public transportation, but difficult.

      Do I need to have any prior experience in seismic surveying? An overview is helpful, but if you would like additional references before the course please contact us.

     What if I don't have a computer or don't want to carry one? It may be possible for us to rent one for you locally. There would be an additional charge.

     Can I bring my own data to work on? Yes. If your data set is complex you may find it best to take the course first then work on the data at the end of the second day.

      Will I be able to have a copy of the software to take home with me to practice? Yes, a demonstration copy will be made available to you to keep that is completely functional but will process only a limited number of shots and receivers.

    Can I get access to a seismograph and accessories in future if I have a survey? Yes, Geometrics rents complete systems.
